Chopin Ballades & Sun Postcards

‘I was surrounded by the music of Chopin in my family’s home in Warsaw for as long as I can recall. It le thanks to Chopin that I fell in love with the plano and have dedicated my musical career to that instrument.

Since early childhood, I have been fascinated by the lyrical melodies of romantic music. I used to listen to esordings from my home Ubrary and tap rhythmically on boxes before I could even reach the keys of the piano. As I progressed with my musical studies, Chopin’s Ballades were soon amongst my favourite compositions. When I was eleven I heard fragments of the first Ballade in G minor in Roman Polanski’s film ‘The Pianist. This encounter Inspired me to begin my Journey with this wonderful piece and then explore the three other Ballades.

Last year, I performed all four Ballades in the same recital for the first time. Playing them together in one recital brought a whole new perspective to the Ballades: each has a unique narrative tone of expression, full of poetry, lyricism and drama. However, there was also a risk of being overwhelmed with such profound feelings and emotions when listening to them one after another. This led me to search for Individual pleces to set between Ballades bringing more time and space.’
